The water table is the boundary between the saturated and unsaturated zone. It is the topmost layer of the saturated zone.

Below the water table, the saturated zone exists, in which pore space and spaces between the rocks are completely and permanently filled with water.

The water table level increases and decreases due to the rate of recharge and rate of discharge. The fluctuation of the water table is also related to the season.

In the summer or when there is less rate of precipitation the level of water table decreases due to the rate of recharge decreases. When the precipitation increases the rate of recharge increases and the water table level also increase.
