London Eye
London Eye was opened in the year 2000, soon after its opening, it became a very important landmark in London. Millions of tourists came from all around the world to observe this landmark of London. London have also a record of being the most observed wheel in the world. During the first year of its operation, about three million tourists visited and observed the London eye.
During the construction of the London eye, there were some serious obstacles. Sophisticated and well-organized techniques have been used to overcome different obstacles. For example one of the big challenges was “Time” to complete this project. This had been overcome by using well-oriented time management techniques, and this whole project was completed only in sixteen months. Although the actual completion time was about three years. So this project also has importance to study for learning time management skills, because this project was completed in half time of its actual projected time (Mann, 2001).
Marks Barfield was the designer of the London Eye, he submitted the design of the London Eye in 1993, but at the beginning, his designer had not found any support. Although during 1994 the chief executive of British Airways Bob Ayling showed his interest in this project. So he started supporting financially Mark Barfield to complete this project.
After the development of the London Eye project, it was submitted for planning permission. During the year 1996 permission have been given officially to initiate this project. The Tussauds group have been also attached this project in 1998. Finally, the construction of the London Eye was started in 1998 and completed within sixteen months ( (www.londoneye.com, 2001).
Generally, It was a successful project in many areas. First and foremost it was completed before the expected completion time, which was one of the important dimensions of the project. Another very important expect of this project was the quality of construction and quality of design, which was not only accepted and acknowledged in the United Kingdom but also all around the world. In Europe, it became one of the great attraction points for tourists from the whole world according to its stakeholders (Londoners and visitors). This project satisfied all of its stakeholders.
The Project of London Eye also helped to the gained useful experience in time management, tackling the obstacle, human resource management, and new innovations. Although there were many successful dimensions of this project, there are a few areas where this project was lacking management. For example, the most important part was a financial challenge, this project was one of the high-cost projects, besides that interest on the taken loan was made it more costly.
